Research Proposal and Final Podcast

My final podcast, once again, was a bit of a technological challenge. One day, I will be able to turn on a computer and not have it hate me. Otherwise, everything went smoothly with the filming, editing and production. Especially because I had to edit everything twice.

My biggest problem with this podcast was talking, once again. I have most definitely learned that I need to use and stick to a script. Ad-libbing is not something I should be allowed to do, because I tend to ramble on and on. Some might say it shows that I'm passionate about what I'm discussing, those in my podcast group might say I need to shutup. I'm going to go with the latter.

Either way, I want to say thanks to everyone who suffered through my first three podcasts, and hopefully you will find my last one at least a few minutes shorter.

Wendy, great job on your 4th podcast! It was produced very well, the lighting and sound were great. It sounds like a very interesting topic and you covered everything very well.

Important and interesting research; comprehensive plan is good; good camera position to let the audience feel that you are talking to them personally. The lighting was good in this podcast. Good flow through all stages of the proposal. An added music clip at the beginning and the end of the podcast would add variety and interest.

Wendy,
I feel for you on the technology issues, considering you and I were the last two in the lab… I am glad to see you survived the technology a few Thursdays ago. I think the computers down there hate me too-
I enjoyed your podcast, I think you did a good job discussing the topic and ‘winging it.’ I think scripts can be useful, but sometimes the final product looks too rehearsed. The tone for your podcast was very comfortable and conversational, easy to follow along with and understandable. You had good transitions and the slides you used were easy to read and up long enough. The only issue I noticed was the placement of the RQ/H slide- it was little off the screen, but the main points were all there.

I think you have done a great job with all of your podcasts this semester; it has been fun to watch them change. Good luck with the rest of your PhD!

Wow, you totally know what you are talking about and i is evident you have done a lot of research about this. This is really cool, though I must admit, quite interesting. Good podcast. You say "um" a lot, but I think its better than he alternative jump cuts. So kudos.

Wendy,
Sorry you so many technical difficulties. Also, I know what you mean about talking being a problem as I constantly had this issue. I really had a script and would just try to adlib it. That NEVER worked; so once I started using a script I noticed it went a little smoother but I still had trouble because I found myself still adding more than I didn’t need or reworking things mid-speech.
This sounds like a very interesting topic and it is very apparent you have already done quite a bit of research on this topic. I hope your research and experiments continue to go as you plan.
This podcast was well produced, despite the issues you had. A couple of people have mentioned this already, but there were a couple of slides that went off the screen – this could have been something that happened while it was being compressed in iMovie or uploading to YouTube. But because you still covered the material I was not left questioning anything on the slides. Another thing I noticed, and may be nothing but something small I noticed, is that at some points there is some sort of noise that sounds almost like wind coming in from an open window or possibly the AC kicking on. Again this is just something I noticed.
You did a great job on podcast 4 and I wish you luck in the continuation of this research (if you do indeed continue it) and the rest of your PhD.

Wendy,

It's a good start to state the importance of the study.
And it's quite interesting that people really do not realize the amount of information out there...!

I think your topic covers a major concern to these days people who use online in their daily life. It is quite interesting that I thought about those security issues when I use some search engine.

Even with those technical difficulties, you did great job!!! I really enjoyed your podcast, and hope your research went well.

Wendy, your final podcast was very informative and it definately shows that you are very knowledgable about the topic and have put in your research time on the subject. The lighting was good and the vocals were nice and clear. You did a good job of speaking clearly and to the point, so I wouldn't worry too much about rambling. Good luck with your project.

Scott.

Wendy,
I think you did a great job with your last podcast. I wouldn't worry too much about the script vs. adlib thing, that's why editing is so helpful. Your sound and lighting were great. I would have framed you just a little bit more to the right, but yours was fine the way it was. Overall, I think you've made some great strides over your four podcasts. Hopefully someday computers won't hate you!

Hi Wendy, I found your research topic to be quite different and interesting. I have always wondered about legal ramifications of the myriad of tools online and search engines is as good a place to delve into as any other. I liked your methodology as I think it is quite efficient and will produce good results. As for your editing, I think the whie background was pleasing and went well with the black. You spoke well (no, you didn't ramble!) and explained the topic lucidly. I liked the slides you used and they added to the final product. Overall, I think you did a solid job and made a very good podcast. I might have added a bit of music personally, but that's just me. Great job!

I’m so sorry about your tech issues! I understand and empathize. I’m not really a fan of our lab here. Anyway, your topic was interesting and you presented it very well. It seems like you have done your homework and can discuss it knowledgably and conversationally. Nice job!

You could tell that you were very prepared for you podcast. You seem to know the topic very well. You lighting was pretty good, and you were easy to understand. I liked the slides you used to help us follow your presentation. You left them up plenty long enough for us to read all the information. As you already know, a couple slides left the screen a bit. I liked the fact it did not sound as if you were simply reading the script. It gave it a more conversational feel. Overall you did a really good job.

I definitely feel for you on the technical difficulties! I thought you did an excellent job explaining your topic during this podcast. Your lighting was good and your audio was clear. It was very informative and interesting as well. I liked the slides you used, although, a couple of them went off the screen and I wasn't able to read it all, but because you did a good job explaining everything, I was not confused. I thought you did a great job editing this podcast and I really enjoyed watching it!
